Every piece of gear in this catalog has a reason to be here. If it wouldn't hold up at a real campsite, it doesn't make the cut.
About Us
The name comes from a real place. Back home in Goochland, Virginia, there's a piece of land that's been part of my life for as long as I can remember — a small knoll tucked into the countryside, ringed by sycamore trees with their big patchwork bark and wide-open shade. For years it was a working blackberry farm, and if you've ever spent a summer morning picking blackberries in the Virginia heat, you already know something about what it means to be outside and completely in the moment. That land has shaped the way I think about the outdoors: not as something to conquer, but something to settle into.
I've been a camper most of my life, and somewhere along the way I added an RV to the picture and never looked back. I've sat around enough campfires, driven enough backroads, and set up enough camp kitchens in the dark to know what gear actually works — and what sounds good in a catalog but lets you down when the weather turns. I'm not a gear snob and I'm not here to impress anyone. I just know what I reach for when it matters, and that's what I want to put in front of you.
The philosophy behind all of it is simple. I've had a motto for years that my family's heard about as many times as they've probably wanted to: "Lovin' Life." Not in a bumper-sticker way — in a real way. In the way that a good campsite feels like you chose exactly right. In the way that getting outside, even just for a night, has a way of reminding you what actually matters. That feeling is what this store is built around.
Sycamore Knoll Outfitters exists to put honest gear in the hands of real people — weekenders, full-timers, first-timers, and lifelong outdoorspeople — so they can spend less time worrying about their equipment and more time doing what we're all after: getting outside and lovin' life.
A Note From the Founder
I'm not a big company — I'm just somebody who loves being outside and wanted to build something around that. I grew up in the tobacco fields of rural North Carolina, and found my slice of heaven in Virginia over twenty years ago. I've camped in all kinds of conditions, and I've made plenty of mistakes so you don't have to. When I put gear in this store, it's because I'd take it with me. I believe the outdoors belongs to everybody, and I'll always treat you the way I'd want to be treated: straight talk, no runaround, and a genuine hope that whatever you buy from me serves you well out there.
Our Mission
To connect people with gear they can trust, grounded in the honest, unpretentious spirit of rural Virginia — so every customer spends less time at the trailhead and more time lovin' life.
